Safety signs - Generations of industry knowledge.
We’ve been around safety signs since early last century.
Our story begins in 1938, when Grandad left school to take up work as a farm labourer. Back then, machinery was powered by real horsepower—the kind with four legs. While safety signage wasn’t yet a recognised industry, the core principles of clear communication and hazard awareness were already present. Messages like “This one bites” on a stable door or “Jonesy’s place” scrawled on a neighbour’s gate served as early forms of informal signage.
After the war, Grandad broadened his experience across a range of industries—timber milling, transport, and construction—developing a strong understanding of the safe operation of both people and machinery.

The next generation continued the tradition. Dad worked across diverse fields such as construction, timber harvesting, and commercial land development. As workplace health and safety gained momentum, so too did our family’s skills and knowledge, evolving alongside the growing demand for safer work environments.

Today, the third generation carries forward this legacy. With experience ranging from silviculture to accounting, we’ve identified a clear need in the New Zealand market: high-quality, industry-ready safety signage. That’s why we founded Emmjay Ltd—to provide the country’s widest online selection of safety signs, available in a range of sizes and materials.
